“The moment you stop believing the stories that hold you back, you start writing your own.”

For many of us, freedom feels like something outside of ourselves – a distant milestone we’ll reach when everything finally falls into place. But true freedom starts from within.

At Primrose Healing & Wellness, we help our clients uncover the quiet stories that keep them stuck and replace them with new ones rooted in truth, self-compassion, and growth.

Here are four common inner stories you can begin to free yourself from today and what you can say instead.

Myth: Everyone else has it all figured out and I’m falling behind.

Truth: Everyone’s path is unique, and mine is unfolding at its own pace.

If you’ve ever scrolled through Instagram or sat silently in a meeting thinking, “Why does everyone else seem to have it together while I feel like a mess?”, you’re not alone.

This is one of the most common and painful stories we tell ourselves. It stems from comparing your behind-the-scenes to someone else’s highlight reel. People rarely show their struggles, doubts, or messy middles. That doesn’t mean they don’t have them.

Here’s a new story to tell instead:

“My journey doesn’t have to look like theirs. I am allowed to grow at my own pace.”

Practice this:

  • When you catch yourself comparing, pause and list three ways you’ve grown in the past year, however small.
  • Journal prompt: What makes my path meaningful, even if it looks different from others?

Myth: If I fail, people will see I’m not good enough.

Truth: Every failure is proof I’m learning, growing, and trying.

Perfectionism can feel like protection, but it often keeps us stuck in fear, convinced that one misstep will expose us as unworthy.

The truth is, failure is not the opposite of success. It’s part of it. Every person we admire has fallen down many times before finding their way forward.

Here’s a new story to tell:

“Failure doesn’t define me. It teaches me how to grow.”

Practice this:

  • Think back to a mistake or failure you’ve experienced. Write down what it taught you. What do you know now that you didn’t know then?
  • Journal prompt: When have I learned something meaningful from failing?

Myth: I have to carry it all by myself.

Truth: We heal in connection. Letting others in is strength, not weakness.

Many of us have been taught, directly or indirectly, that independence equals strength. That needing others means we’re weak.

But humans are wired for connection. We heal best when we feel seen, heard, and supported.

Here’s a new story to tell yourself:

“It’s okay to lean on others. I deserve support.”

Practice this:

  • Identify one person you trust, and reach out. It could be as simple as sharing, “I’ve had a rough day. Can I talk?”
  • Journal prompt: What would it feel like to accept support? Who could I reach out to today?

Myth: My worth depends on how much I do or achieve.

Truth: I am worthy of love and rest, just as I am.

In our fast-paced world, it’s easy to equate productivity with value. We might feel guilty when we rest, or believe we need to earn the right to slow down.

But rest isn’t something to earn. It’s something we deserve. We are not our to-do lists.

Try a different story:

“I am enough, even when I pause.”

Practice this:

  • Schedule 10 minutes of guilt-free rest today. Breathe. Stretch. Take a walk. Do nothing at all – and let it be enough.
  • Journal prompt: If I believed I was worthy no matter what, how would I spend my time today?

 Why It Matters

The stories we tell ourselves shape our reality. When those stories are harsh, limiting, and untrue, they keep us stuck in cycles of shame and fear.

But every story can be rewritten.

At Primrose Healing & Wellness, we believe in a holistic approach to healing – mind, body, and spirit. Through psychotherapy, mindfulness, nutritional counseling, and energy healing, we help you uncover the stories that no longer serve you and create new ones rooted in truth and compassion.
