At Primrose Healing and Wellness, we often speak about our collective journey toward wellness. We’re in a never ending quest to get in touch with our deeper selves and live a life based in our truth. Sometimes this phrasing can imply that we won’t have any sense of fulfillment until we’ve “completed” this journey, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. No matter where we are in our lives, each and every one of is worthy. While it’s important to set goals and work toward self-improvement, one of the most beautiful journeys anyone can embark on is learning to embrace who you are in this exact moment. At Primrose, our top priority is to remind everyone we cross paths with that no matter what you look like or what challenges you’re facing: you are enough.

It’s often easy to share love and compassion with our friends and family, but internalizing these messages for ourselves is easier said than done. So here are our three favorite ways to foster the practice of embracing our authentic selves.

Stop chasing perfection.

Do you have a tendency to hone in on the mistakes you’ve made, or find yourself constantly apologizing for things that don’t actually need apologizing for? So many of us a internalize the unrealistic goal of having a “perfect” life. For some, that’s being a perfect mother, and for others, it’s being perfect at our jobs. But the word “perfect” has no place at Primrose. The truth is that we are all messy humans, trying to find meaning and love in this odd little world of ours. The pressure to be “perfect” is an impossible standard – one to never be met – and the reality is that the quest for perfection can only lead to disappointment. Save yourself the unnecessary stress, and the next time you find yourself itching towards the standard of “perfection”, repeat this mantra: “I am enough.”

Celebrate your small victories.

Hand in hand with letting go of perfection, we love to celebrate all the wonderful little occurrences in our day to day lives. Build a habit of noticing small, beautiful moments, and intentionally spend time celebrating them. Have the flowers outside your home recently bloomed? Celebrate. Are the dishes put away and the kitchen clean? Celebrate. Did you just finish a particularly good book? Celebrate. One of the key success indicators to reaching bigger goals is marking the milestones with as much excitement as the final result. If we incorporate this mentality in our day to day lives, each little step turns the journey into a lively celebration of our extraordinary lives, and makes the journey even more remarkable than the big moments.

Take yourself on dates.

We spoil the ones we love with gifts, time, or attention, depending on our love languages. But when was the last time we poured that energy into ourselves? We are our own constant companion, and should treat ourselves with as much love and respect as we seek from others. The next time you’re feeling overworked, burned out, stressed, or just plain overwhelmed: take yourself out for a coffee, go see a movie, or go on a short walk in your favorite park. Quality time connecting with ourselves is key to embracing who we truly are.
